Are Tanning Beds Really as Dangerous as Arsenic and Mustard Gas?
The latest press release about ultraviolet radiation and tanning beds being deemed “definite causes of cancer” was based on an IARC group meeting, NOT on a new study. As the Indoor Tanning Association stated in its recent press release:
“Media reports comparing indoor tanning to toxins like mustard gas, cigarettes, and arsenic are outrageously overhyped. The same “group 1” category includes red wine, salted fish, and regular sunlight -- so these sensational headlines are as absurd as saying ‘A glass of merlot is as deadly as mustard gas.’”
The encouraging part is, the issue of sunlight and vitamin D is becoming a hot topic, and new studies and articles are appearing all the time.
Michael F. Holick of the Boston University School of Medicine stated:
“The sun has been demonized for years and as a result, people have avoided any direct exposure to sunlight. I think that’s the wrong message.”

Swine Flu is NOT the Problem -- It is the Vaccine that May Harm or Kill You
Article By Dr. Mercola
You’ve probably noticed the escalating hype and hysteria surrounding the swine flu pandemic as colder months approach and the number of worldwide cases climbs.
It’s true the virus is spreading.
Much more important, however, is the fact that reported cases continue to be symptomatically mild, requiring little or no medical intervention. And deaths from the H1N1 virus remain extremely low, at less than one half of one percent of reported cases as of July 6
Despite this fact, the United States has committed to spending another $1 billion on ingredients for an H1N1 vaccine, according to U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, with plans for a mid-October vaccination program intact.
Plans are also underway to implement vaccine programs around the world. In Germany, for instance, the health ministry announced the government had plans to order 50 million vaccine units and up to 22.5 million people may be vaccinated in the first stage of the plan starting in September (even though no fatalities have occurred in the country to date).
The cost of the vaccination program is estimated at two billion euros -- even though only 800 infections, none of them fatal, have been reported in the country.

Winning the Foot Race
A good-looking pair of feet not only enhances one's physical beauty, they are often an indication of good function, much like good posture.
The inverse, of course, is unattractive feet. Poorly functioning feet are not only unpleasant to look at, they often smell and frequently hurt. More importantly, they're frequently associated with such problems as knee, hip, back and neck pain. Even headaches can come from feet that don't function well.
Foot trouble is nothing new. A course manual written back in 1932 by world famous foot specialist Dr. William Mathias Scholl found seven out of every 10 people had painful feet, citing shoes as a major source of the problem. A brief review of medical statistics from any branch of the military, in virtually any country indicates that for as long as soldiers have been lacing their boots, they have had foot troubles.
With so many people suffering from problems with their feet, you might wonder whether the foot was one of evolution's few architectural booboos. I don't think so.
The foot is a complex, beautifully designed shock-absorbing system. Any traveler to a third-world country will tell you that bare feet are completely normal. Items such as foot pads, powders and insoles for sale at the chemists are as rare as a Moa and the word "orthotic" is as foreign as microwave oven!

Two Dietary Oils, Two Sets of Benefits
A study comparing how two common dietary oil supplements -- safflower oil and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) -- affect body composition suggests that both oils can lower body fat in obese postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes. In the study, 16 weeks of supplementation with safflower oil reduced fat in the trunk area, lowered blood sugar and increased muscle tissue in the participants.
Conjugated linoleic acid supplementation for the same length of time, on the other hand, reduced total body fat and lowered the women's body mass index (BMI), a common health measure of weight relative to height.
All of the women in the study took one oil for 16 weeks, followed by the other oil for an equal amount of time.

The Girl Who Doesn't Age
Brooke Greenberg is the size of an infant, with the mental capacity of a toddler. She turned 16 in January.Scientists are fascinated by Brooke’s case. Although there are other children who fail to grow or develop in some way, Brooke's case may be unique.
Brooke hasn't aged in the conventional sense -- her body is not developing as a coordinated unit, but as independent parts that are out of sync. She has never been diagnosed with any known genetic syndrome or chromosomal abnormality that would help explain why.
